Continued increased workload results in our search for an additional plumber who, under limited supervision, will perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of County properties, roads, and bridges, alternating between Highway and Maintenance Units as needed.
Essential duties as plumber can include installation and repair of new piping and fixtures; repair of piping for water, waste, and vent systems according to applicable codes, regulations, and policies; set, maintenance, and repair of plumbing fixtures and equipment; testing plumbing piping systems; repairing and replacing toilets and toilet hardware; unclogging toilets, drains, and sewers; cleaning and controlling corrosion in pipes, drains, and sewers; monitoring meter readings, gauges, equipment controls, valve conditions, and switch settings; and troubleshooting problems, recommending resolutions.
Essential duties performed as maintenance technician when not working as plumber can include a variety of preventive maintenance tasks such as basic rough and finish carpentry, caulking, basic cement masonry, drywall, painting, patching roofs or walls, replacing glass, changing light bulbs and batteries, repairing ballasts and light fixtures, repairing and replacing door knobs or locks, assembling and moving furniture, repairing furniture, or maintaining grounds. Duties can also involve dumping, spreading, and tamping asphalt to repair joints; patching broken or eroded pavement; clearing debris from catch basins, culverts, ditches, and drains; operating equipment such as mower, snow plow, tractor, weed whacker, truck; and responding to emergency or off-hours calls.
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma or GED; a minimum of one year’s experience in plumbing work related to essential duties specified above; working knowledge of tools, methods, standards of practices of plumbing trade; versed in established plumbing codes; skill in using tools of plumbing and construction trades, including measuring and testing instruments; knowledge of variety of building maintenance procedures and techniques. Incumbents must be available to work extended shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.
